The downside to having PowerNow! disabled (besides extra heat and fan noise) is a decrease in battery life. If not I will get that and then try turning PowerNow! back on. My next step will be to make sure I have the latest BIOS from Dell. So, it seems that Dell (or whomever they use for BIOS, forgot to look last time I rebooted) may have a BIOS issue with their implementation of PowerNow!įor those who do not know, PowerNow! is AMD's dynamic frequency / voltage scaling technology for laptop processors that adjusts the CPU's clock speed and VCore automatically when the computer is lightly loaded/idle to save battery power and reduce heat/fan noise.
